Exploring Provence

Pont du Gard was an amazing site. Built around 39 BC, it was part of an aquifer that went 30- some miles across a valley floor.

Amazing what could be built without mortar!

Le Pont Julien was built in 19 BC and still carries car traffic today!

Not the best design for cars, as it's a one lane bridge with a blind approach. A hard tap on the horn is advised before starting across.

The base of the bridge was great for exploring.

From Bruce: "There was a frog right there. It's a sleeping frog. It was a black frog."

These building date from BC times and were maintained for use until the start of the century. This group were moved here for tourists and placed down the end of the narrowest road tourists could possibly navigate.
