Gordes was enjoyed by all, due to its perch high up on the hill, as well as a wonderful market. The road only traversed the top of the village; the rest was stairs, straight down the hill! Funny, Dave never did bike up here. |

Roussillon was a required stop for Liz: this village was the one source for ochre artists' pigment until the 1920s. The cliffs behind me show the beautiful colors of yellow, orange, and red.

Apt was the next biggest town over, the opposite direction
from Avignon.
Dave caught this poignant shot of an older lady surveying the town square from her window. |

Bruce visited this village, Oppede le Vieux, twice! He
remembers the hills and the bells ringing in the tower.
This village was built up the hill to approach the nobleman's castle; quite the climb! |

Yet another delightful village within 5 km of the house: Fontaine de Vaucluse. The claim to fame here is the source of water for the Vaucluse valley, springing out of the rock. Another attraction for Liz: a paper mill, with beautiful handmade papers.
