England 2005: Falconry

Bovey Castle had a daily falconry exhibition, which we enjoyed several times.

On the single day that the sun shone for a few minutes, we were lucky enough to catch the whole show out on the patio.

This European Eagle Owl is the largest owl in the world, although the handler was quick to point out that that designation doesn't extend to its brain!

A juvenile that was just starting to do shows, it was still getting the hang of what he was asking it to do.

 

 
After much coaxing it took to the air for a short flight to a chair and a tasty mouse.
And a successful landing even!
