France 2005: Carcassonne |

We had been advised by several folks that Carcassonne
was not to be missed, so we dropped by for a few days before heading up to
England. The city is a restored medieval double-walled village with some latitude taken in the restoration. The towers were restored in a northern Normandy style. This prevented it from being officially recognized as a historical site for many years, but the tourists didn't care and it is now super busy. The most frightening thing of the whole France part of the trip was having to DRIVE DOWN THIS STREET to get out of the town. And yes there were this many people in the street when we drove down. YIKES, can you say fold in the mirrors? |

They had a great chevalier show daily on the grounds of the castle. The boys loved the action, the jousting, the sword fights, and the wrestling. The girls seemed to mostly like this guys hair :) Okay, and the horses!

Heading to the hotel after dinner one night, Dave and
Bruce came across this little knight in training. Dave took a WIDE berth of this guy figuring a hard swing of that mace would just about qualify for the grand prize on "Most Funniest Videos". Bruce seemed mostly interested in how he would defeat this guy with the sword he so desired. |
