France 2005: Dads and Kids

If you are ever in the Montpellier region, a visit to the "Grotte des Demoiselles" is a must. This cave complex, created by a long-gone river, is the largest and most amazing Dave has yet seen.

For easy access, a shaft was drifted into the cave and a funicular takes you right into the heart of the action.

My only advice is "BRING A SWEATER!!!". It was 98F (34C) outside but only about 64F (17C) inside the cave. Brrrrrrrrr.

In the more open part, this amazing formation was formed over thousands of years. Photography was VERY difficult to do, but we managed a few good shots by sitting the camera on the ground and taking long exposure shots.

The cave has a good tour (all in French :) ) and well thought out and mostly lit paths, but if you are afraid of heights or claustrophobic, I would give this one a miss!!

And of course what would a trip to the south of France be without a dip in the Mediterranean? Bruce and the girls were real troopers, as this was a long drive and the water was mighty cold.

Here, Bruce is trying to demonstrate the acronym ROFL: rolling on the floor laughing. Floor, beach, you know -- whatever!

We had a fun time exploring the break waters that protected the beach. We did well, with no scrapped knees and a few nice pictures.
