February Break

We had a big gang up for the February break, so many that we had to split meals into adult and kid sittings.

The adults had a few more dishes and beverages available, but everyone was well behaved for the most part. Now, the April break was a different story! More on that next update...
Bruce and Roger did a great job at ski school this year, both graduating from level 5. Bruce had a deal that he could ski with Dad once he was done with level 5, so we had to keep our word.

He imagined that "skiing with Dad" involved single runs with French fry stops in-between using only high speed quads out of the wind. He quickly learned that skiing with Dad involves "no whining", t-bars, black diamond runs, wind, powder and not heading home early. Maybe ski school wasn't so bad after all!!
Rob and Sean were up for this trip and had a fun time checking out the terrain accessed by the new Symphony chair.

Just after this picture was taken, Rob went off to "water a tree". Wouldn't you know it he was "ski patrolled" by a female snow boarder!!!

For some added adventure and exercise, Dave tried hiking up the Flute bowl (an inbound back-country area off Symphony chair). It is about a 20 minute climb with skis on shoulder, but worth the effort for some great views and untracked powder.

And of course February would not be complete without the gang's now annual participation in the Appleton Rum Peak to Valley race on Whistler. For those of you not familiar with this race, it is a 5.6 km GS course with 173 gates down 1385m of vertical drop. This year was a "full course" year, with the top times in the low 5 minute range.

The Whistler Downhill Society team improved this year, thanks to Andre's brother Bernard putting in a top 20 time for Friday, Andre not stopping twice this year for a breather, a great last minute sub Kristy, and an improved time by Dave.

Dave's race training and participation in weekly "City League" dual slalom races helped him to a 7:05. Next year sub-7 minutes is the goal.
