Okay, Myst fans, here is a real-life landscape with the same feel. The original builder of the Toba Wildernest Resort built this hydraulic system to provide power and running water at the resort. | ||

From a small catch dam at the base of these falls, he collects the water and
sends it down several hundred vertical feet to the resort. The original cement mixer is abandoned in the trees near here. I can imagine that once you'd lugged it up the narrow steep trail, the thought of lugging down wasn't real pleasant.

Gurgling cauldrons can be found at intervals along the trail. I assume they
built these to control the pressure/head of his turbine/water works system. They sound exactly like the water-pipe scenes in Myst! |
