Getting to Desolation Sound |
|||
After the dude ranch, we headed
to a friend's boat in Desolation Sound. Turns out the easiest way to do that
is by float plane from Whistler! Leaving Whistler, we were treated to a lovely view of the parks. In the upper right is the "self serve" water park Dad and Bruce had such a "cool" time at earlier in the summer. |

There are at least 7 mountain ridge lines between the coast and Whistler.
We were amazed! Hanging glaciers, huge waterfalls, hanging lakes, just wild
scenery.

Approaching the sound, we left the glaciers behind and instead found lush
forests (actively logged, as you can see). Our pilot amazed us with his "spinning plastic place mat map" method of navigation. On the return trip, it became clear that I had better maps than these guys did, but boy, were they good at following theirs as they snaked up the valleys. GPS has yet to take hold in the float plane business. |
