The Renault R5 Turbo
The car is based on a Renault R5 (or Le Car in English-speaking areas), although only a few parts are actually used in a T2. The hood, roof doors, and hatch are from the original; all other body parts are unique to the car and made of fiberglass.
The R5 origins can be seen in this photo. Of course, looks are deceptive, since there is no engine up front: the engine is where the rear seats and cargo area once were. The true unique look of the car is hinted at from this view but the next picture secures the R5 T2's place in history…
