Bruce at the Ranch

For our trip to the dude ranch, Bruce got to ride a big horse! Shadow was gentle enough for the manager's granddaughter, who managed to share.

He did so well balancing for the first ride that we were able to go out together the next day as a family. Bruce was led by the wrangler, and we moseyed along behind, for an hour.

"That was a long, long, long, LONG ride!" "Too long? "No!"

To top off a perfect day, we panned for gold. The ranch folks helped Bruce find some pyrite, and Dave was patient enough to find a few real flecks. Boy, are they small & easy to lose! Good thing we didn't do more of this, because gold fever seems pretty easy to catch!

On the drive down to the river, we passed a working one-room school house. In the background is a one-car cable ferry across the raging Fraser river to a 4x4 road 3 hours from the nearest highway; kids come across the ferry to the school. A different pace of life from ours for sure.
