Holidays 2005

.

This holiday season we decided to avoid airline travel (yet again), instead spending time up at Whistler, with a few days home in between to split up the time.

Given our at home schedule and Dave's distain for the whole tree process, Dave decided to check out fake trees, and this pre-lit beauty was the result.

Hopefully next year it won't require 3 hours of unfolding and "fluffing" to make it look like the real thing!! The good news was: no watering required, no trail of needles and sap through the house, and no lumberjack sessions required for disposal.

Of course all this lighting was for naught on Xmas day as we awoke to howling winds which quickly knocked out our power. Thankfully our dinner hosts had power!

Sean cooked us up an feast for dinner. Being a marine cook, he had a little trouble with portion control, but hey, everyone can use leftovers for their yearly emergency kit!
The kids enjoyed a rare formal dinner, complete with some VERY loud English crackers.

Everyone enjoyed reading the awful jokes they include inside the crackers, and yes, most of us wore the stylish tissue paper crowns.

Gus mistook the crackers for disposable paper hand warmers, but a quick tug from Dave help convince him that these were serious kid- friendly pyrotechnics that should be included in all meals!
.

Up at Whistler we celebrated the holidays by the ceremonial lighting of the grape vine moose head over the fireplace (doesn't everyone have on of these??).
